I recently read “If I Grow Up” and I thought it was amazing. In many ways it showed not only the reasons behind the joining of the gangs, but the consequences of joining. It also shows that the person living there in the ghetto/hood may want to get out but gets caught up in it because there is no food at home, the schools are not teaching, and the fact that it gives someone power hungry, power and the gang gives you a family if you don’t have one.
