At an audition, you must: (1) have a strong desire to write and read, and a willingness to do more than the work required. Because of the academic nature of the creative writing program, successful students usually have high reading scores on standardized tests (85 percent or above) and high grade-point averages (3.0 or above); (2) demonstrate superior reading comprehension; (3) display writing free from major grammatical and spelling errors.
Include with your completed application: 5-10 typed pages of your own poetry and/or fiction that you consider your best work, and a list of books read over the past three months. During the audition you may be expected to write a short piece assigned by the instructor.
You will be interviewed as part of the audition. Consider these questions prior to your audition date: Why do you want to study writing? Are you willing to spend many hours outside of class on your reading and writing? What do you need to know about NOCCA and the writing program?
