Before the Audition
Ensure your application is complete and you have the correct attire to wear to class.Men – Black tights, black ballet shoes, white form fitted t-shirt, jazz shoes and dance belt
Women – Pink convertible tights, black leotard, ballet shoes (no pointe shoes), jazz shoes
All hair must be secure, pulled back out of the face and off the neck. No excessive jewelry!
24 hours before the audition . . .
* Go to bed early and get a good night’s sleep
* The morning of the audition try to do something physical to warm-up your body
* Eat a good balanced meal
* Bring water and an energy snack with you
At the Audition Site . . .
* Assume everything you do is being watched and evaluated
* Arrive a bit early to warm-up, prepare and be familiar with the space
* Try to remember the names of the auditioning panel
* Listen carefully to all directions
* Be polite and courteous to everyone you meet (even other students)
* Keep quiet in the halls
* KEEP YOUR FOCUS
In the Audition Room . . .
* Energize: Be sure to exude a high energy from start to finish regardless of time of day and your emotional or physical energy level
* The audition begins the moment you step on campus
* Be sure your posture reflects your confidence
* Avoid looking at the floor
* Communicate clearly your intent
* Stay relaxed and enjoy the various instructors as well as their methods of teaching
* Focus just above the panel
* Be prepared to articulate why you are auditioning for Dance Department and discuss your previous training
* Be sure you say thank you
You will not need to prepare any choreography for this audition. The NOCCA/Riverfront instructors will teach a class and you must follow the class to the best of your ability. Again, the faculty is looking for potential not polish.
