Audition Requirements

Students applying for NOCCA|Riverfront’s Media Arts program must attend an audition with the following components:

1. Portfolio: You must submit a sample of your work in film, video, audio recording or digital arts (emphasis on motion graphics, animation or streaming media). You should include a short statement that describes the work: Did you do this for a class project? What did you intend? What equipment did you use? If a collaboration, state exactly what role you served in the production. Specifically describe your creative role. If you cannot submit a work in these areas, you may instead submit one of the following:

* A storyboard with text and visual instructions for a short film, video, or animation. You do not have to be a visual artist. A sample sketch will satisfy; however, animation students should display their artistic talents.
* A series of photographs that tell a story (at least 15).
* A detailed critique of the sound/music and visual elements of a feature film or television production that discusses the atmosphere, emotional content and overall effect of the sound.
* a short screenplay (no more than 10 pages)

2. Essay Include with your completed application: an essay describing your ambitions in film, video, audio recording or digital arts in no more than 200 words (approximately two pages if handwritten, one page if typed). Discuss your choice for a possible career in one of these fields and why you think you are particularly qualified for it.

3. Interview: At the interview, faculty will review your portfolio and ask you a series of questions about your experiences, expertise and commitment to being a student. Prepare to discuss your favorite film, video, television production, music album, animation or website. (Avoid discussing your personal likes and dislikes. Describe the work’s content, effectiveness and how the director achieved it).

4. Resume: Include with your completed application: a written or typed list of your experiences in media arts (film, video, audio recording, digital arts). Include past work in productions, clubs, awards and other information that conveys your experience and enthusiasm.
