NOCCA is proud to share the news from the State Department of Education: NOCCA has received the classification of “A” for its innovative Academic Studio full-day academic program for the third year in a row, maintaining its “A” status since the inception of the program.
Of the total of 174 statewide high schools, NOCCA is honored to be one of the 41 schools from across the state to receive the “A” distinction. Also, NOCCA is one of six high schools in Orleans Parish to receive an “A” grade.
This important distinction follows several local and national recognitions recently bestowed on the school:
- Two national student finalists in the YoungArts Scholarship Competition
- Winning recognized student of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Young Artists’ Competition
- Exemplary Arts Education Award from the 2015 OPEN Public Education Awards (Orleans Public Education Network)
President|CEO Kyle Wedberg stated, “It is another fantastic year for our students and, through their work, the school as a whole. We are proud of the achievement of students across the day. There is no greater joy for educators than to see a student reach their potential. We are grateful for the support and partnership of everyone who plays a role in our students’ lives and in the support of NOCCA.”
About NOCCA’s Academic Studio Full-Day School
The Academic Studio is NOCCA’s full-day, diploma-granting high school preparing students admitted by arts audition, without the rigors of standardized academic testing, for successful careers as leaders in the arts. The instructional model, in contrast to the “sit and get and give it back” approach of traditional high schools, is inspired by the arts and emphasizes collaboration, project-based learning, inquiry and critical thinking. NOCCA accepts students to its full-day school Academic Studio, by a blind arts audition.
