Derek Blanco designs set for “A New Brain.”
NOCCA Alum, Derek Blanco designed the set for “A New Brain,” the musical presented by SCAD’s Department of Performing Arts November 6 - 9 at Arnold Hall in Savannah.
A New Brain is a musical with music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Finn and James Lapine. It tells the semi-autobiographical story of a talented young songwriter who is hit with a life-threatening illness and the redemptive power of art.
While living in a coma in his hospital bed, the hero begins writing the music that has been trapped inside of him. He also begins to hallucinate about friends, family, business associates and various people whom he has encountered.
Derek created a multi-media production utilizing projections and live video feeds that brought the hero’s dreams and hallucinations to life on screens above the audience’s heads.
