Miss Black Louisiana USA is proud to announce that New Orleans native Dominique Melder has been crowned Miss Black Louisiana USA 2010. Dominique is an 18 year old undergraduate student attending the University of New Orleans. Her declared major is Theater Production with concentration in Costume Design. She feels this formal education will not only enhance her general knowledge, but one that will give her the best instruction on how to improve her craft. Her professional goal is to become a costume designer who is sought by directors for her talent and ability to convey their visions onto the screen and make the characters three-dimensional for audiences to see and admire. Dominique has had the pleasure of learning from and interacting with some of the best theater instructors in the New Orleans area while attending NOCCA.

Her platform for the communities of Louisiana is to develop opportunities for children and young adults to express and expand their creative talents in constructive ways, which will potentially build into careers. She believes that if a person’s artistic abilities are nurtured and trained from early on then that person will have many chances to use their talents to their advantage throughout life. Her personal motto is “Believe that you can succeed and you will!” Dominique will represent the state in the national competition this upcoming summer.
