NOCCA Alumni Offer Multi-Disciplinary Art Event

Posted on February 05, 2010

Thursday, February 25th
7:30pm

On February 25, 7:30 PM, NOCCA Alumni will collide and create art, the likes of which has never before been seen. Free and open to the public, the event brings together jazz and visual art in a “live” demonstration as two artforms meld into one.

Cliff Hines, local up-and-coming jazz guitarist and composer, and his Quintet will be playing songs from their new album “Like Mystics of Old”, a blend of pop sensibility and electronic experimentalism. His band features vocalist Sasha Masakowski, drummer Paul Thibodeaux, bassist Jasen Weaver, and pianist Andrew McGowan.

Afterwards, Hines’ Quintet will provide musical backing for Paint, a revolutionary performance art featuring avant garde artist Marcus Brown and electronic musician Nathan Weidenhaft. In a medium Brown dubs “electro-sonic painting,” Marcus fits his brushes and canvas with midi technology so that as he paints he contributes sounds and noises to the music (sounds that are controlled via laptop by Brown’s partner-in-crime Nathan Weidenhaft). Fresh and inventive, this concert/exhibition is sure to be a unique occasion.

Cost to attend is free. CDs will be available for purchase.  Seating is limited.  RSVP to Jennifer Cooper by phone (504)940-2912 or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
