Jazz Student Receives Prestigious Louis Prima Award
Congratulations to Brian Richburg, our 2016 recipient of The ASCAP Foundation Louis Prima Award!
Brian Richburg Jr. is a drummer from New Orleans. He has been playing the drums since he was five years old and was playing full-time at his father’s church at the age of eight. After the Hurricane Katrina, Brian enrolled at Lake Forest Charter School where he studied drums under the tutelage of Jerry McGowan. He began to participate in various music programs around New Orleans. After graduating from Lake Forest Charter, he continued to hone his craft here at NOCCA. He is a Vail Jazz Workshop alumnus, and received a scholarship to attend Skidmore Jazz Institute and attended a Five-Week Summer Program at Berklee College of Music.
The Louis Prima Award was established by the late Gia Prima, wife of Louis, and her friend and long-time counsel, Anthony J. Sylvester of Sherman Wells Sylvester & Stamelman, to honor Louis’ legacy.
