Jazz Student Selected For Prestigious Vail Jazz Workshop
150+ Nominees | Only 12 Students Selected
NOCCA Jazz and New Orleans Charter Science & Mathematics High senior Brian Richburg recently received the news that he has been selected as a scholarship winner and participant in the nationally recognized Vail Jazz Workshop.
As the only Louisiana student participating, Brian will travel, all-expenses-paid, to a 10-day workshop in conjunction with the Vail Jazz Festival in Vail, Colorado, August 26-September 5.
“Brian embraces the legacy of what it means to be a musician, drummer and student from NOCCA and New Orleans,” stated NOCCA President | CEO Kyle Wedberg. “He is an extraordinary young man and deserves every accolade that comes to him.”
Additionally, Jazz Department Chair Michael Pellera stated, “
We can’t think of a more deserving NOCCA Jazz student than Brian Richburg. He is already performing with the top professionals of the New Orleans Jazz scene.”
Brian, along with his peers from across the country, will take part in intensive study, performing on several occasions as part of the Vail Jazz Party. In addition to their main-stage performances, the Workshop students are given the opportunity to participate in classic late-night jazz jams—taking off the training wheels to play and jam with many of their jazz heroes.
