Finalists have been announced in the first Student Short Film Contest at the Pontchartrain Film Festival. Seven films will be in competition Saturday at 3 p.m. A question and answer session with the student filmmakers will follow the screening.
Audience members can vote on their favorite high school and college film and while the votes are being counted, stay to watch the 5 p.m. Short Film Showcase. The winners will be announced at 6 p.m.
The 3 p.m. Student Short Film Showcase includes High school films: “I Want To” 3:48 min., by Director Zoe Zollinger (NOCCA); “The Goods,” 1:39 min., Dir. Brett Beard; “Upstairs Candy Trading Co.,” 3:41 min. Dir. Will Nichols (NOCCA); and “Conscription,” 3:08 min. Dir. Nick Ramey (NOCCA).
College filmmakers in competition include “Repurposing,” 32:47 min. by Director Nicholas Leo; “The Anniversary,” 7:20 min., Dir. Jessica Voelker; and “Why I Had to Move Out,” 25 min., Dir. Michael Pagones.
A question and answer session with the student filmmakers will follow the screening.
The Short Film Showcase includes “Free Man,” 7:57 min. by Director Justin Leyba; “Mind Games,” 3:17 min., Dir. Caterina Picone; “Sandwich’d,” 2:24 min. Dir. Chris Hewitt; “Seventeen Summers,” 14 min., Dir. Jesse Williamson; “Story Time,” 4:39 min., Dir. Clay Achee”; “Film Noir,” 4:45 min., Dir. Chris Ganucheau and Simone Marthinsen; and “True Heroes,” Chris Ganucheau, LA Film Prize winner.

Chris Ganucheau of Covington wins the $50,000 Louisiana Film Prize for the short film “True Heroes.” The film makes it north shore premier Saturday, 5 p.m. at the Short Film Showcase at the Pontchartrain Film Festival. The three-day festival is held at Slidell Little Theatre, 2024 Nellie Drive in Slidell.
