Mandeville High Senior Ready For His Close-Up In Filmmaking
Nick Ramey Has Been Selected By National YoungArts Foundation
As a NOCCA Level IV Media Arts student and senior at Mandeville High, Nick Ramey’s schedule has always been challenging. Balancing his academic instruction in the mornings than making the trip over the causeway each day to NOCCA comes with the typical bumps in the road, but Nick’s passion in filmmaking has always pushed him forward to reaching his goals.
For a young artist, Nick’s resume is already extensive. Some highlights include hands-on professional experience as camera operator, director of photography, gaffer, crew and crane assistant on numerous films that have come to Hollywood South. Last year, his work as cinematographer on a group film project at NOCCA led to a selection in the first National White House Film Festival. This year alone he has had the honor of his work being selected by over 25 film festivals for screenings.
Now, as a senior he is excited to hear the news that he has been selected by the National YoungArts Foundation as an honorable mention recipient in the Cinematic Arts. This is the second year he has been selected by this national level review process. He has been asked to take part in National YoungArts Week and will travel to Miami from January 4-11 to take part in masterclasses and interface with other high level high school students. In Miami, he will be competing with fellow filmmakers for the honor to be considered for the prestigious Presidential Scholars Program.
So what is his next step? Asking him, he humbly says, “I have so many colleges to choose from, so I will have to wait to see what happens there. My plans for life are to become a cinematographer/director and work in the film industry.”
If you know of other students who are interested in pursuing high school arts instruction at NOCCA, the high school offers an upcoming Audition Information Session on December 13, reservation required at www.nocca.com, for students who like to consider applying for next year. Applications can be downloaded and printed from the website as well. Applications are due to NOCCA by January 9.
