NOCCA Academic Studio Students Present To Mayor Mitch Landrieu
As a special class with NOCCA President & CEO Kyle Wedberg, NOCCA Academic Studio seniors worked collaboratively on City Planning topics and real life civics lessons.
Mr. Wedberg, who also serves as board chair of the New Orleans City Planning Commission, began there and, after presentations from great city thinkers and artists, they struggled with a different question: “What art or artifact would we want to leave behind?”
Students discussed many issues including what could replace the moments recently approved for removal. They established design principles that informed their discussion on what symbols and art could represent the past, present and future of New Orleans.
They knew the work in this class was important and wanted to share their thoughts. They presented to Councilman Jared Brossett and also reached out to the City of New Orleans and Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s office asking if they could also present to him the concepts they had discussed.
The mayor listened, and hosted the group of students at his office at City Hall.
