Annual Celebration Season At NOCCA
Students Conclude Their Studies At Prestigious Center With End-Of-Year Performances, Recitals, Exhibits, Readings
Each year NOCCA honors its upper-level students, who are concluding their studies, with Celebration Season, a month-long series of performances, recitals, exhibits and readings. Celebration Season provides the opportunity for students to showcase their training at NOCCA on their journey to becoming professional artists.
The following are a list of student performances and events that are open to the public, all taking place on the campus of NOCCA, 2800 Chartres Street, New Orleans-70117.
Creative Writing Spring Reading, April 19, 7 PM, Nims Blackbox, FREE
The highest level students in the prestigious NOCCA Creative Writing program present their original work in poetry, prose and short story. Free and open to the public, the event also serves as a release event for the annual Creative Writing Student publication UMBRA.
Musical Theatre Production of Crazy for You April 20-23 7PM, April 23 2 PM Freda Lupin Memorial Hall
NOCCA’s Musical Theatre Department performs the New Gershwin Musical Comedy, a love story. Tickets available at www.nocca.com
Media Arts Level Showcase & DJ Presentation, April 26, 7 PM, Freda Lupin Memorial Hall, FREE
Students’ present works that they have developed throughout the year at NOCCA including video, digital mapping and recordings.
Drama Senior Recital, April 27, 7PM, Nims Blackbox, FREE
Seniors drama students perform monologues and scenes that they have developed over their senior year for their artistic repertoire of work. Students must present a piece of movement, Shakespeare and dramatic monologue.
Classical Vocal Music Senior Recitals, April 29, 7 PM, April 30, 4 & 7:30 PM, Freda Lupin Memorial Hall, FREE
Classical Vocal music seniors perform opera classics. Each student must perform a song in English, French & Italian to receive a level of artistry.
Spring Dance Performance, May 5-7, 7 PM, Freda Lupin Memorial Hall, tickets available at nocca.com
Students perform original choreography as well as classical pieces. NOCCA Dancers work together to exhibit their skills ranging from classical ballet to modern, to jazz and tap.
Visual Arts Exhibit Opening Reception, May 9, 6 PM, Campus, FREE
Throughout the campus, visual art works are displayed. The works consist of various mediums such as painting, ceramics, photography, printmaking and many more. Student work will be available for purchase the night of the event.
Musical Theatre Senior Recital, May 10, 7 PM, Freda Lupin Memorial Hall, FREE
Seniors perform works from the American song book. As musical theater professionals, these works are essential knowledge as part of their repertoire for auditions and performances.
Jazz Senior Recital, Wednesday-May 11, 7 PM, Marsalis Jazz Studio, FREE
Jazz seniors learn complicated jazz compositions and perform them for invited guest and friends of NOCCA. Through this, the students practice their technic, solos, performance etiquette as well as ensemble work.
Media Arts Festival, May 11, 7 PM, Freda Lupin Memorial Hall, FREE
This event showcases films by various levels of students in the media arts department.
Classical Instrumental Spring Solo Recitals, May 12, 7 PM, Marsalis Jazz Studio, FREE
Seniors perform classical pieces with a high level of precision, reflecting their years of work at NOCCA.
