Visual Arts Alum Receives Biennial Honor
The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis—along with the Gateway Foundation—has announced the three artists selected for the Great Rivers Biennial 2014. Brandon Anschultz, Carlie Trosclair and Cayce Zavaglia will each receive $20,000 and a major exhibition in CAM’s Main Galleries. The Biennial is a unique opportunity for local artists, even when considered on a nationwide scale. “It’s rare,” says CAM director Lisa Milandri. “The Biennial has put St. Louis on the map as a city that is deeply and meaningfully committed to its artists’ development.” The exhibit featuring the work of each of the three artists will open on May 9 and run through August 10, 2014.
The winners were selected by three distinguished jurors; Mel Chin, artist; Lowery Stokes Sims, Curator of the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City; and Lynne Warren, Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. The jurors selected the artists from more than 140 submissions representing a wide range of media, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, video, and new media.
