Young Artists Head Back To School At Louisiana’s Arts Conservatory NOCCA

Student Spotlight | Brooklyn Burt

Brooklyn Burt | Classical Vocal Music

As NOCCA (New Orleans Center for Creative Arts) opens its doors for the 2018-2019 school year for hundreds of students from across the state, take a moment to learn more about a young artist who is making it happen at the prestigious arts school.

Interview with Brooklyn Burt, a 9th Grade Classical Vocal Music student, also attending East Ascension High from Gonzales, Louisiana

How do you feel about starting your next school year at a performing arts high school?

I’m a little nervous, but mostly excited!

When did you notice your passion for vocal music? How did you first get introduced to your craft?

I have been singing since the age of four. When I was nine years old, my voice teacher, Melanie Hirschfeld, introduced me to classical music. Ms. Hirschfeld forever changed my path and future.

How have you started preparing for your arts training?

This summer, I slowed my pace and took a small break to be well rested and ready for Level I Classical Vocal at NOCCA. I did perform in a couple of events with Louisiana Kids, Inc.  Recently, I’ve been studying some music theory.

What is your goal for the next school year? Your next four years at NOCCA?

My goals for the next school year and the next four are to learn as much as possible, to give 100% of myself, and to make many new friends and great memories.

How far are you traveling to NOCCA? What makes you committed?

I live in Gonzales, LA, so my commute will be roughly 60 miles each way.  No complaints from me. I feel extremely honored to have this opportunity to attend NOCCA and do what I love every day. I am beyond blessed and thankful!
