NOCCA Alumni Make Up Category 5 Wind Quintet
Classical music lovers on the north shore will have a special opportunity to hear the Category Five Winds Quintet perform June 3, 7 p.m., at the Christwood Retirement Community, 100 Christwood Blvd., Covington. The performance is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a reception.
The Quintet was formed last fall under the auspices of the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra. Coached by Jaren Philleo, principal oboist of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Category Five was privileged to study with the eminent Imani Winds Quintet of New York earlier this spring. They also were selected to participate in the Birdfoot Chamber Music Festival of New Orleans earlier this month, with two appearances on the south shore.
The recital at Christwood is their first St. Tammany appearance.
The Quintet is made up of Andre Toledano on flute, Amy Cassiere on oboe, Taylor Sparacello on clarinet, Brandon Nath on bassoon, and Kieron Oliver on French horn.
