NOCCA Creative Writing Intro | In-Class Audition & Evaluation
Introduction to Creative Writing offers 8th and 9th grade students a semester-long opportunity to explore creative writing, with primary focus on writing poetry and prose. The class meets twice a week for discussions on craft, stories and poems; studio writing time; critique of student work; visiting artists, and other writing-related activities. Though this is a non-credit class, it is designed for students who are serious about developing as writers. There will be challenging reading and writing assignments, and students should commit to attending every class. Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:30 – 6 p.m. September 9 – December 14 Non-Credit Class; Materials Fee $50 Instructor: Lara Naughton, Chair of Creative Writing This class requires an in-class audition, to be held Monday, August 31, 4:30 – 6 p.m. The audition will also give students a chance to learn more about the course, as it will be conducted like a typical writing class. Students are expected show self-discipline and a commitment to working independently.
