Urban League Announces its 2016 Annual Gala | Celebrates NOCCA
The Urban League of Greater New Orleans will host its 2016 Annual Gala on Saturday, July 23rd, 2016 in the Celestine Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency New Orleans. The gala will benefit the organization with funds going to support programs of the Urban League’s three Centers of Excellence. Gala chairpersons John Mingé, Chairman and President, BP America Inc., and Joe Exnicios, President of Whitney Bank, represent two extraordinary companies who are longstanding supporters of the Urban League with a demonstrated track record of leadership in community revitalization and sustainability.
This year’s theme, “The Essence of New Orleans”, recognizes the importance of art, music and culture in building community character, enhancing economic vitality, community engagement and participation. The evening will be celebratory, with a focus on honoring individuals and institutions who represent depth and diversity in achievement in the arts, and those contributing to strengthening cultural values and preserving the heritage of some of New Orleans’ most celebrated and revered customs.
The festive evening will begin with a reception for Benefactors in the Celestine Ballroom where guests will have an opportunity to mingle, sample specialty cocktails provided by Sazerac and greet our celebrity Mistress of Ceremonies, Actress and Producer, Lynn Whitfield. The cocktail reception opens to the music of Lillian and Tanya Boutte and flows into a buffet-style dinner and an evening of awards and entertainment. This year’s gala honorees are Terrance Osborne, Gus Bennett, Jr., Germaine Bazzle, Deacon John Moore, New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian Council, New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, Ashe Cultural Arts Center and Stella Jones Gallery. The gala culminates with a salute from our illustrious gala toastmaster, Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and a performance by the “Treme Prince”, Glen David Andrews.
