Interview with Astrid Sims, 9th Grade Media Arts student, also attending NOCCA’s Full-Day Academic Studio from New Orleans, LA
How do you feel about starting your next school year at a performing arts high school?
I am super-stoked about starting my next school year at an arts high school. I have been interested in the performing arts since I was four.
Describe your reaction when you learned you were accepted to NOCCA and the Academic Studio.
I was so excited when I found out I was accepted into NOCCA, I couldn’t even finish reading my acceptance letter.
When did you notice your passion for media arts? How did you first get introduced to your craft? I’ve been interested in film since I was young, but I never knew that there was a place where I could learn how to make films here in New Orleans. It wasn’t until my brother, Trunks Sims (Class of 2020) took classes here at NOCCA and showed me everything he learned. I knew I wanted to audition after that.
How have you started preparing for your arts training?
I started preparing for Media Arts by coming up with film ideas and writing screenplays.
What is your goal for the next school year? Your next four years at NOCCA?
My goal for the next school year is the start my own mini-series. Before I graduate, I would also love to receive the NOCCA Presidential Honors award in Media Arts
