NOCCA Student Selected for Posse Scholarship
NOCCA Creative Writing Student Selected As Recipient of a Posse Scholarship
Student Receives Full Ride To Bard University
New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) is proud to share the news: NOCCA Creative Writing student Jada Smiley (12th grade student also attending International High School) was recently received confirmation that she has been selected as a Posse Foundation Scholar and has received a four-year, full-tuition scholarship to Bard University.
Nominated by NOCCA, Jada was selected through a rigorous application and interview process. She was selected because of her outstanding leadership and academic potential.
“Jada’s an exceptional student and artist. As a writer she’s fearless. Her poems and stories are full of beautiful language and bold experimentation. And she’s a dynamic presence in and out of the classroom. The Posse Foundation looks for students who will be innovative and compassionate leaders, and they’ve made a great choice with Jada,” stated Lara Naughton, Chair of NOCCA’s Creative Writing Department.
Jada Smiley said: “I’m pretty speechless. This is such a great opportunity to be able to go to a four-year university, and not just any four-year university, but Bard. Without this scholarship, it would have been almost hopeless to go to college out of state. I’m excited to develop my writing, to study philosophy, and eventually one day be an English professor.”
