A model for education
NBC News hosted Education Nation from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, Louisiana’s arts conservatory for high school students, last week, drawing attention to the successes and challenges of education in Louisiana.
During this broadcast our country was introduced to NOCCA. NOCCA is the institution it has always been: the pre-professional training ground for the next generation of leaders in the creative and cultural economy. NOCCA alumni include Wendell Pierce, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, Terrence Blanchard, Gary Solomon Jr., and many others. Our arts disciplines ranging from creative writing to visual arts prepare more students for colleges, conservatories and careers than ever.
Our 2012 graduates earned $14.5 million dollars in scholarships, and 97 percent were accepted to college or conservatory. NOCCA has a full-day academic program, designed to support and enrich arts instruction. NOCCA’s Academic Studio embraces a learning-by-doing model.
