Teen cellist Angelique Montes isn’t as famous as Wynton Marsalis and Harry Connick Jr., but the young New Orleanian is on her way to joining those illustrious graduates of the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts. In fact, Montes will spend part of the summer touring with violinistJoshua Bell and conductor Valery Gergiev, two of the biggest names in classical music.
On Monday, (March 4) Carnegie Hall tapped Montes, a senior at Ben Franklin High School and NOCCA, to join the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America.
