Classical Instrumental Student selected for Carnegie Hall’s NYO 2020
Louisiana’s arts conservatory NOCCA is proud to share the news that current Classical Instrumental student
Sara Vollenweider (French Horn) has been selected, following a comprehensive audition process, to participate in the Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA) 2020.
Sara is a Level II NOCCA Classical Instrumental student (Applied Instructor: Josiah Bullach, Associate Principal Horn at the LPO) and attends Archbishop Chapelle High School.
The congratulation email from the Executive and Artistic Director of Carnegie Hall, Clive Gillinson, states:
“Each year, we receive auditions from many more exceptional musicians than we are able to invite. To be chosen for the orchestra is a remarkable accomplishment and a tribute to your hard work, talent, and passion for music. It is also the result of exceptional support from your family, friends, and teachers, with whom you share this achievement.”

This will be the second straight summer Sara will be working on a national stage with the conductor of her hometown Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Mr. Carlos Miguel Prieto. It speaks not only to Sara’s hard work and talent, but also to the national power and influence of the arts of Louisiana. The National Youth Orchestra of the United States is fortunate to have them both.”
Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute (WMI) brings together the brightest young players from across the country to form the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA), a free program for all participants. Following a comprehensive audition process and a three-week training residency with leading professional orchestra musicians, these remarkable teenagers embark on a tour to some of the great music capitals of the world while serving as dynamic music ambassadors. In 2020, the orchestra will travel across North America under the direction of Carlos Miguel Prieto with a program that will include Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and feature guest violinist Midori.
