Media Arts Department Produces Vinyl Record: MARS
NOCCA would like to congratulate our Media Arts students on the development of their first vinyl record, MARS (Media Arts Recording Showcase).
Named after their annual music festival, Mars Fest, which took place on Valentine’s Day this year, the album is a compilation of 15 songs produced by over twenty different NOCCA Media Arts students.
The students, honored for the opportunity to have their music on a non-digital platform, shared upon hearing their tracks on vinyl, the artists experienced a new magic from their music: the artists felt like real musicians and producers.
The vinyl manufacturers, New Orleans Record Press, even invited the NOCCA Media Arts students to witness the pressing of the album.
“It was amazing seeing the process first hand,” shared Media Arts Sophomore Andrew Kende. “It wasn’t like ordering it online at the click of a button.”
Further, Media Arts student, Trunk Sims said, “We are official because we are on vinyl and everyone else is just on the internet. We have physical copies of our music. It has really been manifested. It is a different sound. It is more real sounding as opposed to hearing something streamed on the internet because there is more depth.”
Now that the tunes are written, produced, and pressed, the artists are ready to share their music with the world. The vinyl record copies of Mars Fest can be purchased on May 15, at the Film Festival for $25 at NOCCA.
