Student Receives Free Technical Training & Access To
New Orleans Video Access Training Center
New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) is proud to share the news: NOCCA Media Arts student Zsaknor Powe (12th grade student also attending McKinley High School in Baton Rouge) recently received confirmation that he has been awarded the NOVAC 2014 Joshua Short Memorial Scholarship.
This award from the New Orleans Video Access Center provides Zsaknor free access to the special events and training classes the Media Arts education center provides. Also, Zsaknor has been given a NOVAC Filmmaker Access Membership, which allows him access to their professional equipment, facility rental program and Job Referral Program.
In 2012, NOVAC launched the Joshua Short Memorial Scholarship in remembrance of the 25-year-old aspiring New Orleans filmmaker Joshua Short, who was killed senselessly after a neighborhood “Night Out Against Crime” event while visiting a student he tutored. At the time of his death, Joshua was preparing for his participation in NOVAC’s P.A. Bootcamp workforce training program. Joshua’s dedication to filmmaking and his spirit are the basis for the Joshua Short Memorial Scholarship. Two students are selected each year through an application and recommendation process.
