Results Highlight NOCCA’s Empowerment of African-American and Economically Disadvantaged Students
NOCCA is proud to share the news from the State Department of Education: NOCCA has received the classification of “A” for its innovative Academic Studio full-day academic program for the sixth year in a row, maintaining its “A” status since the inception of the program.
NOCCA ranks in the top 98th percentile of Louisiana schools in support of African-American students and in the top 99th percentile in support of Economically Disadvantaged students as these groups are performing higher at NOCCA than at other public schools.
Also, NOCCA celebrates its special distinction bestowed by the state as an honoree in the Top Gains and Equity categories.
- Top Gains Honoree: NOCCA is one of the top Louisiana schools demonstrating outstanding student growth.
- Equity Honoree: NOCCA was also acknowledged as an Equity Honoree by the Louisiana Department of Education for demonstrating excellence in educating students with disabilities, students who are English learners, and students who are economically disadvantaged.
“These scores are a testament to the work of NOCCA’s students and faculty,” NOCCA President|CEO Kyle Wedberg stated. “This is the second straight year NOCCA is both a Top Gains and Equity Honoree. Being a top school in the state for absolute score and growth is a reflection on the kind of school and teaching that we have at NOCCA. This is what students deserve.” “NOCCA is proud to be an example of the national caliber education that is possible and happening in Louisiana Public Schools.”
These reports on NOCCA’s full-day school are reinforced by the scholarship summary of the NOCCA Class of 2019 who received over $23 million in scholarships averaging over $196,000 per student.
About NOCCA’s Academic Studio Full-Day School
The Academic Studio is NOCCA’s full-day, diploma-granting high school preparing students admitted by arts audition, but without regard to current or past academic achievement, for successful careers as leaders in the arts. The instructional model is inspired by the arts and emphasizes collaboration, project-based learning, inquiry and critical thinking. NOCCA accepts students to its full-day school Academic Studio solely through the arts audition.
In addition to the credits students earn in their respective arts disciplines, students in the Academic Studio take two double-block academic courses per year: Integrated Humanities I-IV and Integrated Sciences I-IV. Students also earn two credits of a language and other required electives including health and physical education – as required for high school graduation and TOPS eligibility.
NOCCA is currently looking for new students for its various attendance options including full-day and ½ day. The deadline to apply is January 8, 2020. The online application can be found at NOCCA’s website, www.NOCCA.com.
