End of Course Tests (LEAP)
End of Course Requirements
All NOCCA Academic Studio Students will work towards earning a TOPS Diploma. LEAP Exams are a required part of the Louisiana High School TOPS Diploma. Students will take the following LEAP Exams on the schedule below.
- 9th Grade LEAPs (2 exams): Algebra 1 & English I
- 10th Grade LEAPs (3 exams): Geometry, Biology & English II
- 11th Grade LEAPs (1 exam): Civics
- 12th Grade LEAPs (1 exam): US History
LEAP Scores and Final Grades
LEAP scores must count for 15% of the second semester grade in the course aligned with the LEAP exam. Students do NOT have to pass the LEAP exam in order to move to the next grade level, but they must pass the course after the failing LEAP score has been entered into their grade to be promoted to the next grade level. Students who do not pass a LEAP exam cannot retest that subject until either the summer testing window after the current school year or the December testing window in the following school year.
To earn a TOPS Diploma, students must pass the following LEAP exams.
- 1 Math LEAP
- Either Algebra 1 or Geometry → the state is moving to merge these two tests into one comprehensive math test that must be passed to graduate
- 1 English LEAP
- Either English I or English II → the state is moving to merge these two tests into one comprehensive English test that must be passed to graduate
- 1 Science/History LEAP
- Either Biology or USHistory(26-27 SY only)/Civics (26-27 SY & beyond)
Students entering Academic Studio in grades past 9th grade, must meet the testing requirements from their point of entry into AS for any LEAP-based courses taken during their enrollment at NOCCA.
